Week 29

Lets look at the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and how it changes our lives as believers. To do this we will look at the life of Peter. Peter was a lose cannon. Those around him never knew when he would go off. Some might look at this characteristic as a negative thing. I believe he was enthusiastic, but lacked focus and discipline. John records in Chapter 18 of his book that Peter drew his sword and cut off the ear of the temple servant. Later in the same chapter he denied Christ 3 times. How does a man like this become one of the leaders of the church? The answer is found in the Spirit. Acts 2:1-4 “On the day of Pentecost[a] all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages,[b] as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” Acts 2:14 “Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this.” Peter had been transformed by the power of God through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. God can do the same for you. Your life can be transformed from just a quiet Christian to a powerful world changer. Your attitudes, your motivation, your focus, your life will be changed. Seek the giver. It’s not about speaking in tongues, it’s about Jesus.
