John - Hearing the Heartbeat of Christ

Building Godly Character
Our lives are filled with commotion. Cell phones, Facebook, internet, TV, Wii, texting and so much more can become distractions for us. We need to learn the lesson of John.
John 13:23 “There was reclining on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.”
John sat close enough to Jesus to know His heartbeat. He saw all the miracles. He learned at Jesus feet. John is often referred to as the “one Jesus loved”. He was part of the inner three and one of the pillars of the church. In one place Peter questions the life expectancy of John. Jesus tells him “Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” John 21:22
John 19:26-27 “When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” 27 And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.”
John went on to lead the church for many years. Tradition says that John was the last disciple to die and the only to experience a natural death. John had a special relationship with Jesus. It started with his willingness to listen to the heartbeat of God. In our busy lives we must make time to listen to God.
Psalm 46:10 tells us to be still and know that He is God.
Our lives are so busy we must make a conscience effort to spend time laying at the feet of Jesus and listening to His heartbeat. Who knows what God may challenge us to do when we stop and listen? Tonight I challenge you to 5, 5, and 5; that is 5 min in the word, 5 minutes of prayer, and 5 minutes of silence. Pray for direction, clarity and the ability to know the heartbeat of our LORD.
