Elijah - Obedience is Key
When we look at the life Elijah, there are so many aspects of his life that we can learn from. The greatest is his obedience to God. This is explained in a verse unrelated to Elijah in 1 Samuel.
1 Samuel 15:22 “But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”
Above all other things in life, God asks for our obedience. Each time you see Elijah mentioned in scripture, you see that God commanded him to do something and he did it. 1 Kings 17 God said hide by the Kerith Brook. “So Elijah did as the Lord said”. 1 Kings 17 God said go the widow’s house at Zarepphath. “So he went”. 1 Kings 18 God said present yourself to King Ahab and warn that there would be no rain. “So Elijah went”. Over and over, God told Elijah to speak and he spoke, go and he went, prophesy and he prophesied. Elijah lived an obedient life. Jesus said in John 14:15, ““If you love me, obey[a] my commandments.” The book of Romans tells us that we are sinning if we know what we are to do but do not do it. Strive to live a life of obedience in al that you do. If God is speaking to your heart, be obedient. God blesses us for obedience to His Word and His voice.
