Samson - Doing Great Things for God
God has set all of us apart to accomplish great things through us. From birth we have a divine destiny, if we choose to accept it. Samson was the same.
Judges 13:5 “You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and his hair must never be cut. For he will be dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth. He will begin to rescue Israel from the Philistines.”
All of us are called to do great things for God. Too often we allow situations or personal desires to distract us from God’s divine plan. Samson was forever being distracted. One day he was hungry so he took honey from the carcass of a dead lion….gross. This broke his vow. Next he saw a hot girl in the city, a prostitute; he decided to sleep with her. This broke his vow. Next he falls in love with a beautiful pagan woman, tells her the secret to his strength, winds up with his hair cut and becomes weak. This broke his vow. Finally, Samson repents and asks God to give him one more victory.
Judges 16:28–30 “Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, 30 he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime.”
God called Samson to do mighty things and he did some along the way. Can you imagine what he could have accomplished for God if he had kept his sights on God rather than on the ladies? God has called you to do great things for Him. You are not just some weak awkward teenager. You are a mighty warrior that can be used by God. Be full of the Holy Spirit, know God’s Word, and worship daily. Think of some of the great things you can accomplish for God.
