Nehemiah - Build a Wall around Your Life
The Bible says that the devil wants nothing more than to utterly destroy your life. It is his desire to tear you down and destroy your faith in God. Tonight I want us to look at the life of Nehemiah and how the city of Jerusalem parallels our lives as Christians. The city of Jerusalem had been destroyed as Judah was being taken captive to Babylon.
· Nehemiah 1:3 “They said to me, “Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”
Nehemiah was called by God to rebuild the walls of the city. Tonight the walls of your life may be broken down, God is calling you to rebuild your faith in Him and rebuild the defense wall around your life. When begin to rebuild our lives in God, as He wants our lives to look, you can expect people to come and attack you as you work to rebuild.
· Nehemiah 4:1-3 “1 [a]Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. He flew into a rage and mocked the Jews, 2 saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers, “What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices?[b] Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap—and charred ones at that?”
The devil does not want you to rebuild your life. He wants to keep you weak. How do we rebuild the walls in our life? The same way Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. First, we fast and pray. Second, we work and work and work until the walls are completed.
· Nehemiah 6:15-16 “So on October 2a]”>[a] the wall was finished—just fifty-two days after we had begun. 16 When our enemies and the surrounding nations heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized this work had been done with the help of our God.”
When we reach our goal and our lives are rebuilt the devil and our enemies will stand frightened and humiliated because God is stronger than their attacks. God will help you rebuild the walls of your life.
